Drafting is used by most of the bikers to save energy. This is the phenomenon that lies in the heart of the most of the racing strategy. In this technique most of the bikers try keeping front wheel dangerously closer to the rear wheel of biker in front of them. The difference between the two may be around 6 inches or less and is a very much effective technique. The fact is that a racer trying to hide in the slipstream of another biker would tend to spend at least  around 40 % of less energy when racing.

One may require a lot of energy when biking for 3 hours so drafting does give a huge gap to most of the bikers. The power in this drifting underlies most of the strategies involved in racing. At the time of race most of the teams may share duty of leading their team or pack. So the team that is in the front may try to create a huge wind shadow for all others who are following him. It is always noticed that riders who are in front may have to take hard turns making things much easier for the bikers following them. Most of the team leaders and best bikers may never be seen in the front leading the race as they always try to save their energy for last moment.

If one or more of the bikers may breakaways from this peloton their main aim is to create less competition at the finish line. The way most of the race unfold it may dictate who may lead and who may follow the track while racing. Most of the teams who don’t have any bikers in the breakaway list may often want to pick up the pace during the race.
